5 out of 5 stars A breezy read   September 15, 2006
Bob Sanchez (Southwestern USA)
What Others Know captured my interest easily and held it throughout the story. The characters are likable and engaging, and the danger they face feels entirely believable. The chapters are all very short and typically end leaving the reader with a sense of anticipation.

This novel has a strong, well-executed plot complemented by L. C. Hayden's fine storytelling skills. It's a breezy and satisfying read.

5 out of 5 stars WHAT OTHERS KNOW, YOU HAVE TO READ   February 4, 2005
Karen Dyer (Dublin, CA United States)
What you should know about L.C. Hayden's, WHAT OTHERS KNOW, is that this is a book to read in one sitting, turning each page with anticipation.
Dan Springer lost his wife and his daughter--the former to murder and the latter to abduction--six years before the first page. For six years, Dan has been looking for his daughter, Diana.
In this riveting book, Dan continues to seek out his daughter as a new clue comes to light. The book is all about Dan and his renewed hope that he will find Diana.
The setting is Las Vegas. The detective is Harry Bronson. This is Harry's third adventure in this series.
The kidnapping of a baby is the nightmare of every parent but in L.C. Hayden's extremely capable hands, the characters are engaging and the story fascinating, leading to this reviewer giving WHAT OTHERS KNOW five stars. It would be six stars but I couldn't find a way to add another star!

5 out of 5 stars What I want others to know about "What Others Know"   April 25, 2004

I just had the privilege of reading L.C. Hayden's new book, "What Others Know". This is in the third Detective Harry Bronson book in the series. The story takes place in the glitter and glitz of Vegas with Dan Springer, a reporter. Seven years before, he was working on a series about the drug dealings, and he was warn to stop or he would be sorry. He was. His wife was murdered and his 1 month old infant daughter was kidnapped. Now he has a chance to find out if his daughter is still alive and if so, where she might be. This is an all-consuming way of life for him since his daughter's disappearance, but with the help of the woman he loves and Detective Bronson, he might just pull it off this time! This is a very suspenseful hard to put down novel that keeps you reading to the end. I loved Dan & Debbie, and the sensitivity they have for each other concerning Dan's daughter's disappearance. Harry Bronson is an engaging and very good Detective. He's smart and clever and sees what others miss. All around a great read and I recommend everyone go out and get this book! It is out in paperback now!

5 out of 5 stars exciting thriller   January 4, 2004

In Las Vegas, investigative reporter Dan Springer is working on an article that will expose the extent of the drug dealing, other illegal crimes, and corruption that has tentacles gripping the entire city. Threats fail to deter the idealistic journalist from completing his quest. However, instead of a Pulitzer, Dan is left a widower as someone retaliates by murdering his wife and abducting his newborn daughter with the not so veiled menace to Diana's safety if he prints the article.

Seven years later, Dan still has not found Diana. However, an opportunity to recover his daughter finally surfaces with the kidnapping of the son of a local mob boss. Dan, using his journalist credentials, manages to rescue the son, but the plan goes awry afterward. Instead of a joyful reunion, he has jeopardized Debbie Gunther, the woman he loves, as much as he endangered himself and the trail remains elusively meandering away from his daughter.

WHAT OTHERS KNOW is an engaging tale that focuses on one of a parent's worst nightmares, the abduction of a baby caused by the adult's actions, which in this case was done with good intentions. The story line grips the audience from the start as readers will feel Dan's frustrations in his inability to track down Diana. The secondary characters are solid, but the suspense belongs to Dan, who shows little emotion until the angst ridden climax because L.C. Hayden has drawn him as coldly obsessed with regaining his lost child at any cost. The only flaw of the hero is that his love for Debbie fails to come across until the ending. The audience will appreciate Ms. Hayden's exciting thriller.
